Domestic Violence: WOW, I Never Knew!

When researching about domestic violence I first started by looking up facts regarding my own state of SC, what I found was shocking the article stated that, "39 females were murdered by males in South Carolina in 2008, a total of 1.69 per 100,000" (1). I also found that domestic violence does not just effect the victim, it also has an economic impact. The article tells that the economical impact of violence from intimate partners be more than $5.8 billion each year, and of that $4.1 billion of this will go towards medical and mental health services (2). Another fact that I came across stated that, "Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Most often, the abuser is a member of her own family"(3). Seeing these shocking facts was a real eye opener to me on just how often domestic violence takes place and its impacts.
